All my cutting boards are oiled with mineral oil, the oil is absorbed for roughly 1 hour. Then it is wiped clean with a soft towel. A final coat of Howards butcher block conditioner is then applied to finalize the seasoning process.
After using your cutting boards, wash with warm soapy water, dry with a clean towel. Give your cutting board another coat of Howards butcher block conditioner (or a product of your choice) when needed. Let it sit on the cutting board for an hour or so, then wipe with a clean towel. NEVER PUT YOUR CUTTING BOARD IN THE DISHWASHER!!
After a lot of use your cutting boards will show signs of use. You can bring your cutting board back to life by sanding the surface. Depending on the surface it may need just a simple sanding or in some cases you will need to be a bit more aggressive. Use 120 grit followed up with 220 grit, an orbital sander is perfect for this process. If you don't have an orbital sander, it can be done by hand. Sanding with the grain only, never sand your cutting board against the grain.
If you are experiencing any issues with your cutting boards, please contact me immediately. I can walk you through the process in maintaining, or in some cases, perhaps you dropped your cutting board and have bigger issues. I can repair your board and bring it back to near new quality.
Some products come stained or with a polyurethane finish. Accidents happen, if your product is stained with a polyurethane finish, be very careful when touching them up. You can use a Q-tip and touch up the stain. Then apply a few coats of polyurethane when the stain is completely dry. If your product has a polyurethane finish, you can give it a light sanding to blend the edges, then a few coats of polyurethane and your product should look good as new again. I like to use a soft bristle brush, I only use "Purdy" brushes when applying stains or polyurethane.
I have always had a passion for wood woodworking. I started out by taking shop classes in high school, the useful skills that were taught to me from shop teacher have become the building blocks of my business. I then started building furniture for myself at a young age because I couldn't find exactly what I wanted, or afford to buy it. My sister asked if I could build her a microwave stand, after 40yrs and multiple owners, it's now back in my sister's home, it still looks new to this day. I traveled around the world installing and installation managing for many companies in the theme park industries, such as Disney and Universal Studios. After living in China for 3.5yrs, I settled in Lebanon Oregon, where I manufacture one of a kind cutting boards, tables, or other ideas people have. While working in the special FX industry I brought many ideas to life through my talent's, I can do this for you as well. Thanks so much for stopping by my website.
